And check out OUR NEWLY LISTED ITEMS. This is an incredibly rare original metal printing plate for (we believe) Tip Top Comics #58, published in early 1941. It is for a page featuring the legendary Sunday Newspaper comic strip Tarzan by Edgar Rice Burroughs, with what looks like art by Burne Hogarth. At the bottom it says (printed in reverse) CONTINUED IN TIP TOP COMICS NO. 59 TO BE PUBLISHED FRIDAY JANUARY 31, 1941.
Please note that the title lettering, as well as the rest of the strip is in reverse, since printing plates have the image reversed from how it will look once the final product is printed. The plate measures approximately 6 5/8" by 9 5/8".
The plate looks to be in very good condition, and appears to be complete. Please note that the scan gives the plate a somewhat darker appearance. In person it actually has a somewhat lighter silver appearance (particularly when tilted towards the light), and is much sharper and nicer. It is a thick metal. So there may not be many surviving plates, which would of course make this piece even rarer.
This is a very cool and rare comic collectible that you will hardly ever get a chance to see. This is a fantastic piece that would look amazing prominently displayed, and would be a key piece in the collection of any Tarzan or Golden Age comic book fan.Check out our other auctions for more great items.
